Kreider Mulch Supports $10 Million Blue Rock Firehouse Project with Major Gift — Neighbors Supporting Neighbors
Millersville, Pa. — Dec. 20, 2025 — Blue Rock Fire Rescue today announced a significant contribution from Kreider Mulch to the Answering the Call: The Blue Rock Firehouse Project, a $10 million capital campaign to build a modern, consolidated firehouse serving Manor Township, Millersville Borough and the surrounding Lancaster County community.
The gift from Kreider Mulch—a family-owned and operated business serving Lancaster County and surrounding areas for over 25 years—helps accelerate efforts to construct a new firehouse on the western edge of the district. The facility will replace and consolidate aging stations to provide the district’s more than 100 volunteer firefighters with the space, technology and resources they need to protect the public safely and effectively.
“We are deeply grateful for Kreider Mulch’s leadership and generosity,” said Duane Hagelgans, Blue Rock Fire Commissioner. “Their commitment reflects the very best of Lancaster County—neighbors supporting neighbors, and businesses stepping forward to strengthen the safety of our entire community. This contribution brings us one meaningful step closer to giving our volunteers the modern firehouse they deserve.”
For Kreider Mulch, the gift aligns with its mission to serve the community - a value that has guided the company since its founding. “On behalf of my family and our dedicated team, we are honored to support Blue Rock Fire Rescue and the volunteers who serve our communities day and night,” said Randy Kreider, Owner. “Our mission has always been about quality and stewardship, and giving back to the community is an important part of that. Supporting this campaign is another way we can help strengthen the place we call home.”
Kreider Mulch has built a reputation for excellence and community partnership, supplying quality mulch and topsoil products while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability and service. Their contribution to the Blue Rock Firehouse Project continues this legacy of community investment and support.
According to Mark Lauriello, Fundraising Chair, the gift represents both practical support and a powerful endorsement of the project’s importance. “Kreider Mulch’s generosity sends a strong message: the safety of our residents and the wellbeing of our volunteers matter. We hope their leadership inspires others to join us.”

Blue Rock Fire Rescue Launches $10 Million Campaign for New Firehouse
Washington Boro, PA – Blue Rock Fire Rescue has announced the launch of a $10 million fundraising campaign to build a new, state-of-the-art firehouse to better serve Manor Township and Millersville Borough. The campaign was unveiled in July 2025 during the Tomato Festival in Washington Boro, where community members gathered to see the vision for the project.

The new facility will replace aging stations in Washington Boro and Highville, improving emergency response times and providing modern training and living spaces for the department’s more than 100 volunteer firefighters.
“This isn’t just about bricks and mortar—it’s about ensuring our volunteers have the resources to keep our neighbors safe for generations to come,” said Fire Commissioner Duane Hagelgans.
Blue Rock’s volunteers respond to more than 700 calls annually across 55 square miles, including six miles along the Susquehanna River. With $1 million in donations already secured, the department is calling on residents, businesses, and community partners to help make the project a reality.
“Our current stations weren’t built for the demands of modern firefighting,” said Andrew Slaymaker, a volunteer firefighter with Blue Rock. “This new firehouse will give us the tools and training space we need to protect the people we care about most—our neighbors.”
